Here is How You can Hedge Your Sports Bet

In sports betting, there is a way to reduce the risk of your loss. It’s called hedging. To avoid more loss, you can simply change your bet to the predicted winner (team B). This way, even if the predicted winner didn’t win the match, you only need to pay the juice. You can also place a partial bet. This is when you place less bet on team B than team A. Another way is by placing more bet on team B than A. If you do this, it would appear as if you’re expecting team B to win the game. This is how hedging works in its basic form. However, there is another, better, and more interesting way to do this.

Advanced Hedging

Advanced hedging is used in many betting events, such as series bets in playoffs. Here is an example. Let’s say you place $100 bet on an underdog with +200 odd. You can choose to bet at the beginning or throughout the series. If your team wins the first game, then both betting lines and prices will adjust significantly, while the favorite team could fall from -240 to -120. At this point, you could place your bet as much as $100 on the predicted winner. If the contrary happens, you both win $100 from the hedge bet and lose $100 from your bet on the underdogs. So, it would be even. This is much better than losing $100. If the underdog wins, then you would win $200 from the original bet, but lose as much as $120 from the hedge bet. This way, you can take $80 profit.

No loss

The point is, with hedge bet you will never lose. You will either make profit or break even. If you like less upside, you could give yourself a profit. If you place a $150 hedge bet on the predicted winner, then your profit would be $25 if the team wins or $50 if their opponent wins.

Not as easy as it sounds

Hedging can save you from losing more on sports betting. However, there are plenty of things to do before you can make it work for you.

First, you have to act quickly to get the right price. You can’t lose even a second if you want to get the best price. If you fail, not only you may increase your exposure, but also potential losses.

Second, once you choose to hedge, there’ll be no chance to win your bet. That’s the fact. Unless you have been specifically expecting to hedge on the bet. I don’t recommend this because it’s highly risky.

If you can hedge on a bet that means your team is working up to your expectation. In other words, they have a better chance to win the game. It is also important to remember that by placing the hedge, you choose to throw away this value, if not most of it. This is crucial because sports betting is all about how to maximize the value of each sports bet. The more value you have in your bets, the better you secure your long term victory.
